Where did you live previously? Canada, Cuba
When did you move to Vallarta? 2007
What part of town do you live in? Amapas & Conchas Chinas
Why did you decide to move to Vallarta? While working in Cuba, I was here with some friends on holidays. I was shown, and bought, a condo pre-construction. I had spent a winter here renting, and was sure this was the place for me to retire to. A couple of years later I moved in. What brought me to Vallarta was the friendly people, great restaurants, good medical facilities, lots of things to do. Since then with the arrival of stores like Costco, I feel we have everything we need.
What other places did you consider? Have visited many countries and areas in Mexico. For many reasons, such as proximity to Canada, climate, technology, cost of living, medical care; Mexico rated high. After seeing other areas in Mexico Puerto Vallarta kept rising to the top.
What are the top (3) things you have learned that you think might help someone moving to Vallarta now?
- If you have not lived here for at least 6 months, start by renting. I love it but I know first hand it is not for everybody.
- Remember you are no longer living in Canada or the USA. Go with the flow, try different foods, learn the language (even a little bit), understand the culture and since every month has a celebration. Know why.
- There are a great many good causes that help a lot of people, get involved if only by supporting the events
