Hello Cheryl, I am happy to find new expats moving with children to PV. We are also a family (CO) with 3 children (10, 12, 12)planning to move to PV area. What school will your children be attending to? just curious to collect more information on local schools or private. I know the transition in language barrier is a challenge. If there are more expats with mid-aged children, I would like to learn more. Good luck in your moving.

      Hi!
We are a family living in Puerto Vallarta 4 years now! Our boy girl twins are 10 years old and they attend the British American School. We would be happy to answer any questions you have. Look forward to meeting you!

        Hi Allison,

I am so sorry that I did not see these posts until now – nearly 6 months later. We ended up moving to the Yucatan and are loving it! I am interested in knowing more about your experience with the British American School, though! That was the school we had selected had we moved to PV. How have your kids done there academically? How long did it take them to be truly comfortable and fluent in Spanish? It was funny because all the schools told us that our kids would be fluent by Christmas, but that was an exaggeration, as far as our experience goes. Every day they are speaking more Spanish, but I don’t think they will be truly comfortable (language-wise) socially until closer to the year mark.

I’d love to hear more about your experience and where you live?

        Thanks,
        Cheryl

      Hi Javier,

I am so sorry that I never saw your message until now!

Did you end up moving to PV?

We were looking into moving to PV or Puerto Morelos on the Yucatan and ended up choosing the Yucatan. We have been here since last July. We love it! Our kids our attending a small Waldorf school here and the quality of life is wonderful. The school they attend here is 100% Spanish. Every school told us that the kids would be speaking Spanish by Christmas. In our experience, that is an exaggeration. They are doing great, and know a lot of Spanish, but still have a long way to go. Having said that though, we are excited by their progress every day, and love it when our 6 year old corrects our pronunciation and teaches us new words 🙂

We also loved PV, and decided that if we moved there, we would put our kids in the British American School. We were impressed when we visited.

Our decision to choose the Yucatan over PV basically came down to air quality and the smaller town. I’m sure we would have really enjoyed PV as well, but appreciate the blue, clear skies here and the Caribbean Sea.

I’d love to hear about your experience, if you are there, and what school your kids are attending!

      Thanks,
      Cheryl

      Hi Javier,

We were looking into moving to PV or Puerto Morelos on the Yucatan and ended up choosing the Yucatan. We have been here since last July. We love it! Our kids our attending a small Waldorf school here and the quality of life is wonderful. Their Spanish is improving every day but it has taken longer than all of the schools told us it would 😉 At this point, they can understand most conversation and are somewhat conversational, but nowhere near fluent. However, it is exciting, every day, to witness their progress with Spanish, and to have our 6 year old correct our pronunciation and teach us new words. In addition, we always feel welcome and are always included.

We also loved PV, and decided that if we moved there, we would put our kids in the British American School. We were impressed when we visited.

Did you end up moving to PV? If so, how was the transition and which school are your kids attending? I’d love to hear!!

      Thanks,
