Lo de Marco Beach

Today I put the dogs in the car and headed north to Lo de Marco.  It’s a small town about 38 miles (61 km.) north of P.V.  Figure about 1 hour and 15 minutes of drive time.  There was road work today….. resurfacing after Sayulita, sometimes only a single lane would be open.   The roadway has many curves and the trees create a tunnel canopy over the road.   At this time of year, the green is so intense, the color is almost overwhelming.  Trees, vines, palms, flowers and then an opening to a small vista…the scenery changes with every turn.  Every mile is a beautiful changing vista.  I stopped at a fruit stand in San Ignacio.  There are lots of them all the way until Compostella. They sell fresh bananas, coconuts, pineapple and all sorts of candies and cookies made from them.  I bought some coconut, coco-mango, and coco-pecan-chocolate confections for only 30 pesos.

When you arrive at Lo de Marco, turn left into town and follow the road until you hit the ocean.  Many business are closed for the low season, but that makes for a wonderfully quiet beach.  It’s one of the places I enjoy bringing my dogs to play.  Lots of room for them to run and few people around.  I went on a Thursday and there were only two beachfront restaurants open.  And maybe as many beachfront bungalows open for rent.  And absolutely not a single beach vendor.  Coconut palms lining the beach, total peace and quiet with only the sounds of the close breaking, low waves. With a tall cold one in your hand, and something tasty coming off the grill, what more could you want?
