Mike and Karen Erp
Status: Family
Employed or Retired: Retired
Where did you live previously: Spokane and Pullman, Washington, USA
What part of town do you live in: Downtown Centro
Why did you decide to move to Vallarta: Primarily because of the people and climate. We were married here while we were still working and began a search for an eventual retirement destination.
What other places did you consider: We did not consider spots other than in Mexico. We did travel from coast to coast in resort communities, first weighing our choice between the Caribbean side and the Pacific side, then between Mazatlan and Vallarta.
What were the main reason(s) you moved here: To enjoy retirement in a place with a comfortable climate, a relaxed pace and with plenty of opportunities for entertainment, recreation and travel.
What are the top (3) things you have learned that you think might help someone moving to Vallarta now:
- Vallarta is safe; it is at least as safe as communities of equal size in the US and other locations.
- The local (National population) people are very warm, loving, family oriented hard working individuals; they are easy to engage and are very willing to help you to better understand the culture and language.
- There is a lot more to Vallarta than just the Hotel Zone and malecon. The bus is an easy, economical way to get around. Don’t be afraid to explore away from the main avenue.
