Where did you live previously: I left California 24 years ago after living there for 15 years, and I was born and grew up in IL. I have traveled to 55 countries and lived in several including New Zealand, Australia, France, Turkey, Venezuela, Singapore, Sri Lanka. I prefer to consider myself a citizen of the world.
What part of town do you live in: I moved to La Cruz after 12 years in PV in 2009 and opened the Pat Henry Studio.
Why did you decide to move to Vallarta: The physical beauty of the area, the people, the art community, and in La Cruz the healthy environment with a garden and large old trees.
What were the main reason(s) you moved here: A more gentle way of life. Life lived outdoors where you meet your neighbors. An attitude of self-responsibility from health, to safety, to using our built-in commonsense vs. an overload of rules. A slower pace.
What are the top (3) things you have learned that you think might help someone moving to Vallarta now:
- Poco a poco. Everything takes longer than you expect, so always carry something good to read!
- Everything is possible once you find the right people, support, and information.
- Live more like the locals to get the most from being here.
- Whatever you enjoy you can find here, if you take the time to look for it.
Dear Pat,
If you have the time, I would love to hear from you concerning private high schools – in the Puerto Vallerta area – for American (i. e., English-speaking) kids moving down to the region. Right now, I am only aware of three high schools that are teaching in English; of these, only the “American school” has a decent website. The others (which appear to be British or pretend to be British) have very little information. So, at a distance (I am in Seattle), it is very difficult to figure out schooling options for under 18-year olds in the Puerto Vallerta area. Have any comments?
Thanks,
Thelma
