Brandelyn Collins

In California, Member Profiles, New York, Thinking of Moving to Vallarta, US, Where We are From

Status: Single
Employed or Retired:  Retired
Where are you living now / where are you from:  Native New Yorker, SoCal transplant 30 yrs., now living in No. San Diego County
Timeframe for a move:  As soon as my mobile home sells! Hopefully 3-4 months.
Where else are you considering:  Ensenada/Rosarito
Why Vallarta:  Combination Pacific Ocean and city amenities. Reasonable airfare back home couple times a year (young grandchildren and elderly parent).
How can ExPats in Vallarta assist you:  Have never been there. Hurricane Patricia derailed my planned 30-day visit. Want to rent 3-6 months tryout near the water and public transportation, something small for one, private and around $500/mo. And no stairs- slightly disabled. Would love to meet and socialize with expats to pick their brains on all the ins and outs of residency.

Good choice Brandelyn. We have lived here fulltime for 13 years in September. We only return to the states on occasion to visit our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This is a wonderful place to live with many Expat activities. As for safety, I am a retired California Highway Patrolman and can tell it is safer here than in the states. Now we are volunteer missionaries and teach English in an orphanage and a poor Mexican church way out in the hills of PV. There are so many gringo related activities you will need to be careful you don’t tire yourself out. Summers are hot and humid so a/c is nice but fans work also. Our bus system is great and taxi’s are plentiful. We have excellent entertainment because many of the New York Broadway musicians come here to escape their winters and come doing our high season (Nov to May). If you have specific questions e-mail me at the e-mail above of fstphoen@juno.com. God bless.
