Glenda & Stephen Bland
Status: Couple
Employed or Retired: Semi-retired
Where did you live previously: Stephen was born in the Mid-lands in the UK and lived in various cities until 9 years ago. I was born in Kansas but have lived in 7 different states and moved to the UK when we were married. We both hold dual citizenships. We had a house in Cardiff and a flat in London. Nine years ago, we made the UK to Maryland move and moved to San Antonio last year. Then made our move to Puerto Vallarta in July.
What part of town do you live in: Amapas & Conchas Chinas
Why did you decide to move to Vallarta: We love the weather, the people and the culture. I missed the sun when we lived in the UK and Stephen said he never knew the sun could shine every day and not once every couple of months.
What other places did you consider: South Africa, Thailand (mainly Phuket), Spain, Costa Rica
What were the main reason(s) you moved here: Again, the weather. Texas and Maryland both get hot but you don’t have the beautiful bay as your view.
The people are so warm and lovely and we love the culture.
What are the top (3) things you have learned that you think might help someone moving to Vallarta now:
- Do your research on all aspects of your move! Our move may have been a bit more complicated because of our dual citizenship and we were married in the UK so that required extra documents.
- Have a good bi-lingual attorney. They can save you so much time and hassle in getting your green card!
- Be patient. Don’t expect things to be like the US or Canada or proceed as quickly. Smile and greet everyone in Spanish.
