In Member Profiles, Montana, Thinking of Moving to Vallarta, US, Where We are From

Heidi ProppStatus: Family

Employed or Retired: Semi-retired

Where are you living now / where are you from: We currently live in Great Falls, MT. Both of us grew up in Montana and have lived here since school.

Timeframe for a move: We are planning to be there 2-3 more times in the next 9 months to view properties and business opportunities, want to be there permanently by May 2015

Where else are you considering: After much research, and travel we have made Puerto Vallarta our city of choice. We love Tulum and Akumal, but the East is so “plastic” and so VERY expensive. It also, sometimes, doesn’t feel like authentic Mexico.

Why Vallarta: We fell in love with Old Town. It’s has the energy, and the character, and the international/diverse people we wanted. We love the area, the diversity of the whole bay. There is every kind of something less than 100km away! We are also mountain people. My better half doesn’t get too far from the mountains. We love that the Sierra Madres are front and center! We are also looking for a small business venture in the way of a B&B, or a restaurant. (we have been in the hospitallity business for many years). Something maybe already established. But not afraid of just buying a domicile and making something either. Other half is near retirement, but not quite, needs to ease up on the work hours. We can’t do that here.

How can ExPats in Vallarta assist you: Any info on properties, business opportunities, ways and means, etc would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Hiedi and Better Half,
    Welcome to Puerto Vallarta
My name is Trenie Penrod, from Salem, Oregon. I have visited PV for many years, watching it grow from a small coastal mexican village (1st visit was 1963) to a lovely larger town with still has the small town friendliness and quaintness with still holding onto their delightful Mexican culture. I am very pleased that I chose this area in Mexico to retire and am sure you will come to love the people and culture that “the gringos” have also done.
There are approximately (usually) 2 happy hours per month at a restaurant on the beachfront that also offers dinner for a reduced price for all that is interested in more than a margarita or beer. It is very informal with no “meeting”, just enjoying your new expat sitting within speaking range.
This is just a note to welcome you to Puerto Vallarta and will be welcoming you with open arms upon your arrival, Trenie
