I’ll say that Mexico is amazing … last September the exchange rate for pesos was ten to the dollar . Lately it has been over 15 to the dollar, so this year will be a better time to spend the dollars.

OH, there is a war going on in Mexico between the government and the drug cartels. Also the people are marching against the President . Corruption is mentioned. Then there is the low wages in Mexico. The pickers are picketing for higher wages for harvesting of the crops in the field, which are left rotting. Low wages means greater exports to countries that pay high wages. The profits you know, go the government, and not the people.

Then there is the 16.5 percent tax on purchases . It is a lot higher sales tax than in my home town San Francisco. Here we do not pay taxes on food, as in Mexico. I would stay home this year if not for my timeshare. Restaurant tipping is way up … and in some cities in California tipping has been done away with, and is included in the menu prices. One of the most amazing things are the bus fares… just 7.5 pesos You can just get on a bus in Puerto Vallarta and travel around the bay shore roads, and back into the valleys. Awesome, and often live music and singing are provided.

What you almost never hear about is the climate change. The government is handling that also with a large carbon tax, that will bring up the cost of many things. Too bad that Mexico cannot cap their venting volcanos. One eruption and it can be more pollution than the carbon tax is expected to save from human pollution in a years time.
