In Illinois, Member Profiles, Thinking of Moving to Vallarta, US, Where We are From

Rebecca LauerStatus: Single

Employed or Retired: Employed

Where are you living now / where are you from: Currently living in Chicago and long to escape the harsh winters and high cost of living. I would like to live near the beach and enjoy a slower pace of life, surf if possible, explore a new culture and pursue my passions.

Timeframe for a move: One year, Fall of 2016. Hoping this is my last winter in Chicago.

Where else are you considering: Perhaps Big Sur California, San Diego or even Portugal.

Why Vallarta: Love the place and it has everything I am looking for–the Ocean, sun, surf, a sophisticated city, a large and established expat community, and it is near the States.

How can ExPats in Vallarta assist you: I am interested in long-term rentals in a neighborhood that is safe for single women, and getting to know others who have already made the transition. I could use advice on just about every aspect of moving to PV! Thank you in advance for your help.

Rebecca, we have lived here 12 years. As a retired California Highway Patrol Office I can say we are far safer than Chicago, Big Sur or Portugal. We have many single young and also more mature widows and ladies living here. We have tons of things to do with Expats. We have all the conveniences of the states with lower costs for car repairs and medical and dental. And I will put our restaurants up against any in the states. In PV, a city of about 350,000 about 10% to 20% are permanent gringos in low season and then it jumps to 30% in high season as the flood in from Canada, and the East Coast because of weather. You won’t have any trouble finding a place to rent as the Mexican’s love gringo renters. I can also connect you to gringo single Expats here. Rebecca, I am from Chicago and single as well. This is the first year I have been able to spend 3 months here and I am so glad I purchased a place last year. I am in Nuevo Vallarta in Banderas Bay and LOVE IT!

I have been coming down here for 17 years but finally decided to buy last year. Great investment. It is a wonderful place for a single women since it is in the resort area and well monitored. Lots of great restaurants close by and the public transportation is wonderful.

My email is cherylmorris7@gmail.com if you want to chat further.
