Devy Mehta

Status: Single

Daughter Shreeda, 18yrs (moved back to London) for further studies

Son, Om, 16yrs

Daughter, Premma 11yrs

Employed or Retired: Employed

Where did you live previously: Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, for 17 years

Cape Town, S.Africa for 3 years

London, United Kingdom for 24 years, left London Aug 2009 to live in Vallarta

What part of town do you live in: Marina

Why did you decide to move to Vallarta: For the climate, the lifestyle, the outdoor life for our children and to be by the ocean and mountains again, that we had experienced in our stay in Cape Town.

What other places did you consider: Aukland, New Zealand

What were the main reason(s) you moved here: Real estate was suffering in UK,; also the Hedge Fund that my late husband Raj had just started had to terminate before business began due to the Madoff arrest in NY, and the sudden changes in the world of Finance. I retired from 20years in optometry and came here to paint, write and meditate, while Raj continued trading on commodities, currencies etc , working from home.

We arrived here in August 2009; in May 2011, Raj, aged 46years, died of a sudden heart attack leaving me and my 3 children here in Mexico.

What are the top (3) things you have learned that you think might help someone moving to Vallarta now:

  • People are warm and friendly and eager to help or advice.
  • Being with nature and fabulous climate most of the year round beats the varieties or many efficient aspects offered by big cities.
  • There seems much less crime here compared to where I have lived before- Nairobi, Cape Town and London.

    Hi Devy,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. How are you adjusting?

I am a divorced mother of a soon-to-be 17-year-old daughter. We wish to leave the U.S. this July. We are considering PV. We will bring our two rescued chickens and two rescued rabbits. Hopefully my daughter will be able to study for her B.S. in biology and I will be able to build my Herbalife business and perhaps teach while getting it up and running.

Are you familiar with a vegetarian group in the area? We are devotees of Paramahansa Yogananda and are wondering if there is a group of devotees in the area.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    All the best,

    Carol

      Hi Carol,
      Yes,
      Self Realization Fellowship indeed.
Have you tried asking the mother centre for the world directory for the SRF centre’s?
I was in Los Angeles last year, looked up all the SRF temples and saved them into the Gps, travelled all over and finally ended in Encinitas.

      Jai Guru
